Hi Caz, glad you had a good holiday but this must have been a bit unnerving for you. I was experiencing similar symptoms and just thought it was because I was so unfit. My rheumy just happened to check my blood pressure and it was quite high (apparently the anti inflammatories I am on can contribute to this). Am now on medicaton and feel better than I did. I would definitely get it checked out soon. Take care.

julie i had the same thougths last time about being unfit
but when i origianlly had these symptoms about 6 months ago i went to the doc's
he did bp blds and spirometry--breathing test and chest xray with nothing found the nurse who did the spirometry suggested that it maybe the naproxen but the doc dismissed this i think i need a second opinion
feeling b----- awful today fatigue set in big time!!!!!!
sweats --swollen ankle/heels and general pain --- i'm glad i'm not travelling home today as it would have been a very long journey!!!!!
holiday was lovely--we had a converted barn which was beutifully done ---maybe even going back when the heather is out later in year ---fingers crossed!
thanks for your advice will follow through this week

Hi, it would not hurt to get your Thyroid checked if its under active that can give you breathlessness, I use to get it. I'm on a low dose of meds for it and I get free prescriptions now. Try the web site www.thyroiduk.orgHope that might of some help you have nothing to loose in getting it checked out.

Hi Caz, good to hear from you but sorry you having these worries.
I had very similar when first diagnosed - including on holiday even when I had not done too much at all, just gentle walking. I was told it could be connected with my body getting used to tablets and also the disease itself. That was way over 10 years ago now and good news is, I am in control of things now, but I can remember feeling very similar - VERY tearful, plus completely washed up and inadequate.
Please definitely go back for more advice / checks. Also lots of good advice elsewhere from others, including thyroid website. Hope you get some good support, let us know how things are going. Take care Love Liz xxxxx

Hi Caz,
Glad you had such a lovely holiday!
Fatigue is very definitely a big part of RA and I've found it can take on different forms. Sometimes, I find I am completely wiped out and any exertion requires immense amounts of effort. The fatigue can come and go quite quickly or linger for days.
As for the breathlessness, I would definitely mention this to your rheummy as it may have a number of causes. I have pleurisy as a result of RA and am breathless a lot of the time too.
Another point I've just thought of is muscle wastage. Usually after a flare when you may have been particularily inactive, the muscles lose their tone and it can take much more energy to do the same amount of activity until you've built the muscles back up again. This additional exertion may contribute to the breathlessness as your muscles are requiring more oxygen than previously.
Hope you manage to get it sorted
Joanna

I started feeling like this a few months ago and went to the GP who suggested i might be asthmatic. She prescribed an inhaler which has helped with the breathlessness. YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

Hi,
Definitely have this checked out. Thyroid probs can cause this and also anemia when it is severe, have you had a full iron check recently?
Hope you get some help, it must be absolutely awful for you.
Love,
Amanda

Hi,
yes I have this when walking up an incline - I live on quite a slope so it happens whenever I leave the house and turn left! It is frustrating, scary and horrible and I also thought I was really unfit combined with usual fatigue of RA. Also doesn't happen every time, and unpredictable when it does. Well, turns out that my stable hypothyroid has become very unstable and I am quite under at the moment. It is getting better now my thyroxine has been increased.
There are lots of reasons for breathlessness, but as others have mentioned thyroid could be worth a thought. Hope you find an answer soon
all best Alison xx
